Eight local fire departments were summoned to the scene of a house fire around 10:15 a.m. June 24. The fire occurred at 9903 W. U.S. 40, Knightstown. No one was injured in the blaze, which drew fire fighters from Charlottesville, Knightstown, Shirley, Dunreith, Spiceland, Carthage, Wilkinson and Raleigh. At least one resident was home when the fire broke out, but managed to escape unharmed. The fire appeared to have started in the garage, but quickly spread to the rest of the house via the attic.
One of the first fire fighters on the scene, Capt Doug Lutes of the Shelbyville Fire Dept., though off duty, helped local firemen coordinate their efforts. Law enforcement officials on the scene came from the Knightstown Police Dept., Carthage Police Dept., Henry and Hancock County sheriff's departments and the Indiana State Police. Units from Southwest District Ambulance Service were also on hand.
