Mounds State Park in Anderson kicks off its annual Hoots and Howls Weekend on Friday, Oct. 27, with the popular "Not So Scary" hikes from 6-9 p.m. on the illuminated trail. More events take place at the park throughout the weekend. Knightstown Trunk or Treat event - on the Public Square, Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1-3 p.m. Decorate your vehicle and be on the square by 12:30 p.m. to hand out candy. This community-sponsored event will also have contests for best kids costumes, best adult costume, best pet costume, best family costumes and best decorated trunk. Lots of other activities and games planned. If you don't have a trunk to decorate, bring a table and decorate it. Visit Knightstown Trunk or Treat on Facebook for photos from previous year's event.
Shirley's Octagon House group will hold its annual costume parade at the Shirley Park shelter house on Monday, October 30, at 7 p.m. Judging and prizes for all ages with free refreshments.
Spiceland Friends Church Fall Festival - Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Bring the family and have the kids go trick-or-treating and play some great games in the Spiceland gym, then head on over to the church's Family Center and enjoy some refreshments - hot dogs, apple cider, hot chocolate, and cookies - while watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" It's free! All are welcome. (Note: volunteers are also needed to help pass out candy, run some games, serve food and for clean up. Contact Cathy Harris for more info.)
Thornhaven Manor, located on Spiceland Pike near New Castle, will be illuminated on Halloween and welcomes all ages to come by for trick-or-treating on Oct. 31 from 5-9 p.m. (Note: The manor will not be open for tours during that time)
Lewisville Community Fall Fest, the town's annual Halloween community party, will be held this year on Nov. 4, from 3-8 p.m. at the Lewisville Shelterhouse. Chili and hot dogs will be provided. This year the event has been expanded to start earlier in the day to offer more games, a skating rink, basketball and plenty of free activities for families. Bring the kiddos for a day of family fun and don't worry about dinner! Costume contest, crafts, cookies, spooky hayride, pumpkin and treats for all children that attend.
