Girls Crush Jackets, Win Streak Now Five
January 28, 2009 - Knightstown’s girls varsity basketball team continued on its hot streak last week, extending its winning streak to six games with wins over Morristown Monday night 67-27, a 57-44 victory over Cambridge City Lincoln, and a 49-36 triumph over Shenandoah (see related story, page 10).
The most recent victim was Morristown on Monday night. The Lady Panthers took the court by storm in the first period, opening up a 16-6 lead. Knightstown increased that to 31-8 at halftime, and then blew the game wide open with a 22-8 third quarter run. That put the Lady Panthers up 53-16 after just three quarters of action.
Once again Megan Hiner had a tremendous all-around game, leading all scorers with 17 points. She also had a team-high nine rebounds, a team-high five assists, four steals and one blocked shot.
Freshman Kaelee Kuhn also had a great all-purpose game with 10 points, four steals, four rebounds and two assists. Senior Natosha Hiner hit double digits with 10 points, collecting five steals, dishing out four assists and grabbing one rebound.
Sabrina Hatfield had a steady game, scoring 14 points and pulling down seven rebounds. She also had two steals. Jocelyn Sturgill scored six points and had four assists, Brittany Brown had four points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Haley Morgan and Megan Chew both tallied two points.
The Lady Panthers opened up an 11-4 lead after one quarter, but cooled off in the second frame and let the Lady Golden Eagles back into the game by being outscored 16-12 in the second quarter.
Knightstown then held Lincoln to just seven points in the third period and extended its lead to 37-29 heading into the final frame. The two teams combined for 35 points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers hit just 19-of-32 free throws, but outscored Lincoln by 10 points at the charity stripe.
Megan Hiner led Knightstown with 21 points, hitting 9-of-15 field goals and both of her free throws. She hit one three-pointer.
Sabrina Hatfield scored in double figures with 12 points, nailing 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-4 from the foul line. Natosha Hiner was the third Lady Panther in double digits with 10 points, going 3-of-8 from both the field and the free throw line.
Danielle Altman scored six points, Kaelee Kuhn had four and Jocelyn Sturgill scored one point.
