 JV Girls Thump Patriots 37-11

January 21, 2009 -  Knightstown’s girls junior varsity basketball team allowed Union County to hang around for the first half, and then buried the Patriots with a massive run to pull away with a 37-11 victory last week.

The Lady Panthers collected 15 steals in the game and held Union County to just three points in the entire second half.

Knightstown led 10-4 after one quarter and increased that to 20-8 at halftime. But the Lady Panthers shut out Union County 10-0 in the third quarter and then used an 11-3 run to close the game to pick up the easy win. The triumph improved the girls’ record to 10-5 on the season.

Seven players scored in the game for Knightstown. Megan Chew led the way with 14 points, outscoring the Patriots by herself. She was 5-of-7 from the field, but struggled at the free throw line for the first time this season. Chew managed to hit just 4-of-10 free throws. She also had two steals and two rebounds.

Floor general Hannah Smith had an outstanding game, dishing out a team-high six assists and collecting three steals. She also had two points, four rebounds and a blocked shot.

Haley Cruse scored five points and had a team-high six rebounds. Sarah Whiteside scored seven points, grabbed five rebounds and had one steal and one assist.

Mahaley Hagy scored five points and had two rebounds, while Aerial Sturgill had three points, five rebounds, one steal, one assist and one blocked shot. Haley Morgan scored one point, but added a team-high five steals with one assist. Ashley Darling had three steals and two rebounds.

The girls hosted Cambridge City Lincoln Tuesday night and travel to Shenandoah tonight (Wednesday).
