Hastings Leads 7th Graders to Wins
October 1, 2008 - Knightstown’s seventh grade volleyball team whipped Eastern Hancock and Tri last week to improve its record to 4-3 on the season.
The Lady Panthers had seven service aces in a 25-21, 25-11 thumping of the Lady Royals. Jacquelyn Hastings had a tremendous game with five service points on one ace, two solo blocks, one kill and one dig. Her aggressive play was contagious for Knightstown.
“The biggest improvement was our aggressiveness at the net,” coach Cindy Hammer said. “The girls went after the ball and tried to attack more. Jacquelyn got those two blocks for us, and that was exciting. The team is starting to see what the possibilities are and the girls are becoming more confident.”
Patty Jones also served for five points, while Jill Gross had four service points on two aces. Abby Hawkins served for four points and Sydney Grizzell knocked down two aces. Casey Back had three points while Hannah Gross added two. Single points were served up by Hannah Morgan and Chelsea St. John.
Knightstown swept two games from Tri last week, although the team didn’t play nearly as well as their game against the Lady Royals.
Patty Jones led the offensive assault with five service points. Jacquelyn Hastings and Hannah Gross both had four, while Gross had two aces. Chelsea St. John and Sydney Grizzell both had three service points, while Casey Back had two. Hannah Morgan and Emily Thomas both had one point.
“The team is just continuing to get better,” Hammer said. “We are looking forward to the matches against Rushville and the county tournament.”
Knightstown plays at home Saturday in the Henry County Tourney, with play beginning at 9 a.m.
