Knightstown Got Break Intended for #1 Seed Connersville

July 30, 2008 - All-star teams in the Cambridge City Tournament played three pool games, and then seedings one-through-six were established for the actual tourney. Knightstown went just 1-2 in pool play and became the sixth seed. Connersville was seeded number one.

Instead of rewarding the top two seeds with byes and making the other four teams duke it out in preliminary tourney games, Connersville was given the only bye, and also rewarded with their first game against the weakest team – Knightstown.

The other four teams battled it out, and Greenfield won twice to advance to the final. Knightstown then shocked everyone by knocking off Connersville 11-6, basically stealing the bye from the top seed and getting into the final game after having won just one game. It was the last thing tourney organizers expected to happen.

Knightstown then crushed Greenfield 14-2 to win the tournament.
