Badonkadonks Edge Gators 10-7 in Senior League

July 16, 2008 - Ashley Darling and Hayley Hardeman combined for five runs and Brittany Brown struck out 11 batters to lead the Boondock’s Farms Badonkadonks to a 10-7 girls senior league victory over the First Christian Church Gators.

The Knightstown Home Optimist Club’s girls senior league games are finally swinging into gear after losing battles against Mother Nature due to recent heavy rains. Roughly half of the games this season have been rained out.

Hardeman slapped a pair of singles and reached base four times while scoring three runs for the winners. Darling plated three runs, while Brown slapped a single and scored twice herself.

Brown had a workman-like day on the mound, surrendering eight hits but allowing just two passes on walks. She struck out 11 Gators in the game. Brown and Darling scored in the seventh inning when Morgan Helderbrand ripped a single to make the score 10-5.

The Gators, who never led in the contest, rallied in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Jessica Runyan singled. With two outs, Courtney Hastings reached on an error, and Jocelyn Sturgill ripped a two-RBI double that scored both Runyan and Hastings and cut the lead to 10-7.

But Brown got out of trouble by retiring the last batter and securing the win.

Hardeman, Darling and Allison St. John all scored in the first inning off of Gator pitcher Mahaley Hagy to spot the Badonkadonks to an early 3-0 lead. The Gators came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first when Haley Cruse and Sturgill both hit safely and scored on a base hit by Jessica Keck.

The Gators tied the game up at 3-3 in the second inning when Jackie Hastings drew a walk and scored on a wild pitch. Runs by Brown and Cassie Hammer were answered when Amber Rubio singled and scored on a sacrifice by Hagy, making it 5-4.

The Badonkadonks plated two key runs in the fifth inning when Hardeman and Darling both crossed the plate to up the lead to 7-5.

Hagy went the distance for the Gators, allowing just six hits and striking out eight batters in a well-pitched game. She walked only three.

Runyan and Rubio both had two hits for the Gators. Runyan’s day included 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Sturgill also had two hits and three RBIs.

Hardeman went 2-for-3 with three runs scored for the Badonkadonks. Darling scored three times and Brown had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored. Hammer and Helderbrand also hit safely for the winners.
