 Panthers Get Rematch With Lincoln

May 21, 2008 - Coach Donnie Martin’s Knightstown Panther baseball team lost a tough one last week to Cambridge City Lincoln, 4-3. The team won’t have to wait long to avenge that disappointing setback, because they drew the Golden Eagles in the Northeastern baseball sectional.

Union County is the favorite to win the Class 2A sectional and is 19-4 on the season. Hagerstown, Knightstown, Centerville and Northeastern are the other teams in the field with winning records.

Although they are just 10-15 on the year, The Golden Eagles knocked off Knightstown last week, 6-5. The Panthers are 3-2 against Sectional 42 competition this season, but have lost four of their last five games.

Knightstown fell to Hagerstown Monday night 8-1, getting just two hits off of Hagerstown pitcher Dylan Bane. The Tigers scored their eight runs on just six hits. Hagerstown and Union County are on paper the two best teams in the sectional, and they play each other in the fourth game of the first round. The winner of that game will get the winner of the Panther game against Lincoln.

To win the sectional Knightstown will need to get out an offensive funk that has seen them score one run against the Tigers and get shut out by Shenandoah last Saturday.

“We’re going to be all right,” Martin said Monday afternoon. “We’ve lost a few games lately that frankly, we shouldn’t have lost. But the kids know what they have to do and I like our chances in the sectional.”
