 Hibbert, Fields, Rech Regional Bound

May 21, 2008 - Knightstown juniors Anthony Hibbert and Sam Rech, and freshman Lane Fields advanced to the track regional after performing well in last week’s Connersville sectional.

Hibbert finished second in the 200-meter dash, coming in at 24.89 seconds. Rech was third in the high jump, clearing an even six feet. The winning leap at Connersville was 6’2”.

Hibbert just missed qualifying in the long jump, although his 18’10” was well below his season best and netted him a fifth place. The weather conditions at Connersville were horrendous throughout the meet.

Fields finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.45, but he advanced to the regional due to a scratch after the meet. The top four finishers advance.

Fields also finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.29), 14th in the long jump, and Travis VanOsdol was seventh in the shot put (43’6”).

Luke Brishaber had a 10th place finish in the 400-meter dash. In the 800-meter run, Adam Rutledge finished 17th and Colby Hartwig was 19th.

Knightstown’s boys team finished eighth out of 13 teams with 27 points. Centerville won the sectional with 109 points. Richmond was a close second with 107, followed by Rushville with 98, Northeastern 79.5, Connersville 66, New Castle 49, Lincoln 46, Knightstown 27, Union County 13, Hagerstown 12, Tri High 9, Morton Memorial 6 and Seton Catholic 2.

The Lady Panthers didn’t have any girls advance in the Connersville track sectional last week, but did get several personal-best performances in the season-ending event.

Senior Diana Trautmann closed out her brilliant high school athletic career with a sixth place finish in the long jump (14’10”) and a seventh place in the 400-meter dash (1:06.1). Trautmann is Knightstown’s all-time leader in career points in track and field.

Kathleen Weiland finished 11th in the 3200-meter run and 12th in the 1600. XXXX Perkins came in 16th in the 800-meter run, turning in a personal-best time of 3:06.42.

Jocelyn Sturgill also threw a personal-best 29’2 ½” in the shot put, which was good for 10th place. She was followed by Sabrina Hatfield in 11th place with a heave of 28’8”. Ortman also finished 13th in the discus (79’4”).

Both Lady Panther relay teams turned in their best times of the season. The 400-meter relay team of Casie Conley, Perkins, Ortman and Cody Chew came in 11th place with a time of 1:01.01. The 1600-meter relay team of Conley, Perkins, Chew and Weiland finished ninth with a season-best time of 4:56.7.

The Lady Panther track team is coached by Dan Clevenger.
