 KIS Girls Track Team Strong Finisher

May 14, 2008 - Knightstown’s girls and boys junior high track teams both finished second in three-way meets at Greenfield-Central last Wednesday. The meets were the last of the season for coach Chris Underwood’s two teams.

The girls finished with 55 points in a good outing against the larger school. The Lady Cougars won the meet with 71 points, and Seton Catholic did not score. Greenfield won the boys meet with 96.5 points, Knightstown had 26.5 and Seton Catholic had three.

Shay Pope finished her junior high career with a career day. Pope grabbed a first place ribbon in the shot put and in the 100-meter dash. Her 100-meter dash time of 13.6 was a personal best. She also finished second in the discus and was a member of the 400-meter relay team that also came in second.

Emily Thomas also had a great day, establishing two of her best performances of the season. Thomas had a first place in the long jump, getting a personal best leap of 13'10.5". She also took first place in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.75, also a personal best. Thomas was also third in the 400-meter dash and a fourth in the 200-meter dash.

Jackie Hastings won the high jump (4'4"), was third in the 100- and second in the 200-meter dash.

Ashley Darling placed second in the long jump, was on the second place 400-meter relay and 1600-meter relay teams, and placed third in the 100-meter hurdles.

Knightstown also got third place efforts from Kaelee Kuhn in the shot put with a personal best 28'2", and Ariel Sturgill in the discus. Sturgill also placed fourth in the shot put. Casey Back placed second in the 800-meter run to cap the Lady Panther scoring.

Bobby Wyatt had a pretty good day in his last junior high track meet. He placed second in the discus, third in the 100-meter dash and third in the high jump. Will Milton finished third in the 110-meter hurdles, third in the long jump, and grabbed another third place spot in the 400-meter dash.

Terry White placed third in the 200-meter dash and fourth in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash. Jordan Jessup placed fourth in the discus and fourth in the 100-meter dash. Both the 400-meter relay and 1600-meter relay teams finished second for Knightstown. Zach Cleek finished fourth in the 800-meter run.
