Trautmann Shatters All-Time Track Points Record

May 7, 2008 - Knightstown High School senior Diana Trautmann has accomplished a lot of things during her high school athletic career. At the Henry County meet last Tuesday, the multi-sport athlete crossed a milestone that leaves her second to none in the history of Knightstown High School.

Trautmann established the all-time record for career points total in track and field during the county meet. By winning three events, she extended her career points mark to 626 ¼, breaking the record of 607 ¾ held by Sue Burns.

Knightstown finished third in the county meet with 38 points. Tri High won the event with 89, followed by Shenandoah at 75, Knightstown and Blue River with 24.

Trautmann dominated in her three key events, winning the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, more than six inches farther than second place. She won the 400-meter dash in 1:07.2 and took the 200-meter dash in 28.65. In her fourth event, Trautmann finished second in the 100-meter dash in 13.96, losing by 7/10 of a second.

Janice Ortman finished second in the shot put with a distance of 26-11. Along with Trautmann’s effort in the 100, those were the lone second place finishes the Lady Panthers had, and no other Knightstown girl won an event except Trautmann.

Sabrina Hatfield finished third in the shot put. Ortman and Hatfield were third and fourth, respectively, in the discus.

Kathleen Weiland finished fourth in the 1600-meter run and fifth in the 3200-meter run. Brittany Osborn scored with a fourth place finish in the 100-meter high hurdles, while Casie Conley was fifth in the 400-meter dash.

Knightstown’s varsity girls track team finished sixth in the Hagerstown Invitational held last Friday. Trautmann was the only winner for the Lady Panthers, taking the long jump with another leap of 15 feet.

Trautmann also finished second in the 400-meter dash and fifth in the 200, a full two seconds off her county meet time. Ortman finished third in the shot put and eighth in the discus. Hatfield was fourth in the shot put, while Weiland finished seventh in the 3200- and eighth in the 1600-meter runs.

Centerville won the meet with 142 points, followed by Lincoln at 118, Tri High 112, Hagerstown 79, Northeastern 47, Knightstown 46, Blue River 27 and Triton Central 0.

The girls travel to North Decatur Thursday, and the sectional begins May 13 at Connersville.
