Lady Panther Track Team Whips Morristown, Morton
April 23, 2008 - Knightstown’s varsity girls track team picked up another victory last week. Coach Dan Clevenger’s girls took first place in a three-way meet against Morristown and Morton Memorial last Tuesday. The girls were third in a meet Thursday at Muncie Burris with Wes-Del.
At Morristown the Lady Panthers won seven events, led by senior Diana Trautmann, who grabbed four first place ribbons. Knightstown finished with 73 points in winning for the second time this season. Morristown had 68 points and Morton Memorial had nine.
Trautmann won the long jump at 15-1 and took the 100-meter dash in 13.5 seconds. She finished first in the 200-meter dash in 29 seconds flat, and won the 400-meter dash by six seconds, coming in at 1:06.
Breanna Eoff won the other individual event for Knightstown, taking the discus with a throw of 85-6. Janice Ortman finished second in both the shot put and discus.
The Lady Panthers won two relay races. Brittany Osborne, Kathleen Weiland, Casie Conley and Cody Chew took the 3200-meter relay by a comfortable margin. Conley, Sturgill, Ortman and Chew won the 1600-meter relay.
Chew and Ortman finished second and third, respectively, in the high jump. Weiland was second in the 1600 and 3200, Conley finished second in the 400, Osborn grabbed second in the 800.
Knightstown received third place finishes from Sabrina Hatfield in the shot put, Osborn in the high hurdles and Chew in the 100-meter and low hurdles.
The lack of numbers caught up with Knightstown in a three-way meet hosted by Muncie Burris. Trautmann had the lone first place effort for the Lady Panthers, and that came in the 400-meter dash. She finished in a time of 1:05.4. She finished second in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Ortman and Sturgill came in second and third in the shot put, while Ortman grabbed third place in the discus. Meagan Garner was third in the high hurdles, Conley was third in the 400-meter race, and Weiland took third place in the 3200-meter run.
The girls travel to Shenandoah Thursday and participate in the Northeastern Invitational Friday.
