Royals Capture School's 5th Sectional Title

March 5, 2008 - Freshman Dustin Smith scored a game-high 23 points, giving him 64 in the three sectional games, as the Royals (15-8) won their school's fifth sectional title, beating Union County (12-11) in the Class 2A Sectional 42 championship.

The Royals trailed by five points in the third quarter but went on a 21-4 run to take control of the game. The title was Eastern Hancock’s first since 2003. Smith finished with a 21.3 average in the sectional.

Caleb Kennedy added 15 points, giving him 44 in the three games. Union County was led by senior Michael Sustarcic, who had 17 points and scored 55 in the three sectional games for an average of 18.3 per game.

Jensen Maroska bounced back from a bad shooting night on Friday against Knightstown to score 12 points.

Eastern Hancock trailed most of the first half, falling behind 11-5 after one quarter and still behind 19-16 at the half. The Royals started to turn things around in the third frame, when they erased a five-point deficit to pull ahead 34-31 heading into the fourth. A 27-point fourth quarter sealed the deal and gave the Royals their first sectional title in five years.
