Rushville Will Be Great Test for Panthers Heading into Sectional

February 20, 2008 - This Friday night the Knightstown Panthers will be getting a tremendous warm-up game for next week’s Hagerstown Sectional. The Class 2A Panthers will host Class 3A Rushville, a team that has just recently been playing its best basketball of the season.

The Lions are 9-10 on the year, and are likely better than anyone the Panthers might see in the sectional field. Rushville has won three of its last four, last losing to 18-2 Batesville on Feb. 7, 66-55. The Lions have defeated Greensburg 67-55, Greenfield-Central 80-56 and Morristown 88-55. Knightstown beat Greenfield 69-59 and Morristown 61-46.

The Lions will be a great challenge for the Panthers in their last chance to fine-tune for the sectional tourney. Knightstown has not won back-to-back games the entire season.

“Rushville is playing very good basketball right now,” Panther coach John Howell said. “They are a good offensive basketball team and are putting up a lot of points.”

Over the last four games the Lions are averaging 75 points per game. For the season, Knightstown is averaging 56 points per game, but over their last four contests that average increases to nearly 64.

“Rushville has played a pretty good schedule and they have good size,” Howell said. “It will be a great match for us going into the sectional.”

Seniors Bryce Cole, Jordan Bearhope and Kyle Buckley will be playing their final home game of their high school careers. They will be recognized Friday night.
