 8th Grade Girls Win Wes-Del Tournament

January 16, 2008 - Knightstown’s eighth grade girls basketball team captured the Wes-Del tournament Saturday be defeating Cowan and Union County. The tourney championship improved the girls’ record to 2-1 on the season.

The Lady Panthers won the first game against Cowan 34-30. Kaelee Kuhn led the team with 18 points. Ashley Darling scored 10, while Shay Pope added four points. Michelle Hochstedler and Maribeth Wells each had two points.

Ariel Sturgill, Mahaley Hagy and Margaret Pedigo also added to the victory with their defensive efforts.

The Knightstown girls met Randolph Southern in the championship game where they pulled out a 21-14 victory.

Kuhn again led the team with 11 points. She was followed by Hochstedler with four. Ashley Darling, Ariel Sturgill and Shay Pope each had two points. The team played one of their best defensive games of their early season to give them a 2-1 overall record.

The young Lady Panthers played Morristown Tuesday night and host Union County Thursday at 6 p.m. The team plays Tri next Tuesday, also starting at 6 p.m.
