 Basketball Teams Hit the Hardwood

October 31, 2007 - Knightstown’s girls basketball team will open the season on November 8 with high expectations. The team has been practicing since October 22, and Coach Dawn Basicker is going through workouts with several veteran players, as well as perhaps the most anticipated freshman class Knightstown has had in nearly 30 years.

The Lady Panthers will return several starters and a bunch of talent from last year’s team. But the girls will add a considerable amount of talent from a deep freshman class that could provide a couple of players for the varsity team this year.

Coach Dawn Basicker has been practicing her team for about 10 days, and is working with a core of 16 players vying for a spot on the varsity.

A preview of the Lady Panther basketball team for 2007-2008 will be published in next week’s edition of The Banner.

The boys varsity basketball team will have a new coach this season, and they will begin practice next week. The boys team was young and inexperienced last season and suffered through the worst year in KHS basketball history, setting a school record with 21 losses.

Nine of the core 12 players return this season, and they will be joined by quite a bit of competition expected from a strong freshman and sophomore class. The boys are expected to rebound and turn in a pretty good season under first year Coach John Howell. A preview of the boys basketball team will appear in the November 14 issue of The Banner. The first boys basketball game will be November 21 against Tri High.

The girls open their season on November 8 against Hagerstown.
