Four Local Drivers Finish in Top 10 at Mt. Lawn
September 26, 2007 - The final night of racing at Mt. Lawn Speedway had a strong local flavor Saturday night, and four area drivers all finished in the top 10 of the Motion Motors Late Model feature.
Greensboro’s Scott Knepley got around Doug Hinshaw on lap 18 of the feature and led the rest of the way for the win. Knepley started 10th and was in second by lap 12. Knightstown’s Randy Anderson finished fourth and Kennard’s Mike Neal sixth. David McConnell of Shirley finished in 10th position.
Hinshaw finished second, followed by Terry Cater of New Castle, Anderson, Tony Broyles of New Castle, Mike Neal of Kennard, David Fox II of Markleville, Bill Pierce of New Castle, Tom Nixon of Daleville McConnell.
Knepley set fast time at 16.801 and edged McConnell in the dash for cash while Hinshaw and Miles Sexton of Markleville won the heats.
Kevin Claborn of Cambridge City led the final 23 laps of the Dependable Drywall Thunder Car feature for his fourth win of the year. Cory Cook of finished second, followed by Cody Walker of Middletown, Chris Bolyard of Rushville, Jason Clark of Greensboro, Matt Nelson of Greenwood, Tony Stewart of Straughn and Ross Lane of Hagerstown.
Claborn set fast time at 18.563 and won the dash while Cook won the heat.
Kenny Lee of Anderson took the lead of the Collins Auto Service Hornet feature on lap 14 from Jerry Small, who had led from the start. Russ Humes of Middletown finished second, followed by Keith Morris of Mt. Summit, Brian Lewis of Lawrence, Small, Robert Ripberger of Cambridge City, Jeff Sorrell of New Castle, Chris Jennings of Richmond and Brian Slavey of New Castle.
Humes set fast time at 20.144 with Lenny Tungate of New Castle winning the dash; Lee and Lewis won the heats.
Geoff Gerline of Carmel won the feature and the dash in the Mini Cups.
Tate Martz of Rushville moved into second place in the Jenmarco.com UMRA 2007 point standing by winning the Championship 50. Martz led the final 22 laps of the event, with Scott Petry of Greenfield second. They were followed by Jason Willis of North Bend, Ohio, Bobby Walton of Shelbyville, Derek Fisher of Columbus, Nick Speidel of Muncie, Terry Goff of Fortville, Ron Combs of Greensburg, Robbie Roland of Greenfield, and Trent Henderson of Greenfield. Martz set fast time at 16.125; Willis won the dash with Martz, Willis and Petry winning the heats.
