Mt. Lawn Speedway Installs New Scoreboard

July 25, 2007 - Mt. Lawn Speedway has installed an electronic scoreboard/message center at the facility west of New Castle. Track promoter Rick Sweigart is hopeful that the new scoreboard will increase fan enjoyment during races by making them better informed on such things as who the top five cars are or what lap the race is on.

“We have made many improvements to Mt Lawn over the past 5 years and this was a big investment for us,” Sweigart said. “But I think it will pay dividends in the future. As we become more familiar with the workings of the display, we will add items to the message center for the enjoyment of the fans. Especially during the longer feature races it has been helpful to fans, drivers and officials.”

“Even on yellow flag laps the drivers could not hear the public address announcer telling was lap the race was on or the running order so they had to rely on pit crews for hand signals, now they can know at all times what lap the race is on,” Sweigart said.

Planned uses of the sign include a scoreboard, qualifications times, advertising, photos, history information, lucky number programs, birthday and anniversary announcements, just to name a few.

Mt. Lawn features stock cars on Saturday nights during the summer with races starting at 7:30 p.m. and USAC midgets on Wednesday night starting at 7 p.m.
