Dakota Locker, Jack Smith Lead Red Sox to Win Over Pirates in Boys Minor League

June 13, 2007 - After starting out the season slowly, the True Communications Red Sox have caught fire and picked up their third consecutive win Friday night over the National Road BP Pirates, 13-6. The game was one of several played last week in the Optimist Club’s boys minor and major league baseball programs.

Dakota Locker and Jack Smith drove in three runs apiece, while Jacob Bearhope pitched two scoreless innings to lead the assault.

Locker had an RBI double, while Smith drove home three more runners and Mason Carmichael slammed a solo home run for the winners. Tyler Littleton also had an RBI double and scored a run, while Kaleb Buchanan had an RBI double and also scored. Riley Ruble had two hits and two RBI, while Lucas Haase, Tyler Helderbrand, Michael Weiland and Cory Speicher also hit safely and plated runs for the Red Sox.

With the loss, the National Road BP Pirates fell to 3-3-1 on the season. But they didn’t go down without a fight.

Jarrett Weidner went 2-for-2, while Logan Whitaker, Justin Madren, Brock Harding, Bryan Newby and Lane Parker all hit safely and scored in the contest. Conner Brockman and Zachary Brown also had hits for the Pirates. Vivian Goodpaster, Robert Huckeby and Dane Corbett also played well for the Pirates.

Logan Whitaker had three put-outs at shortstop, while Jarrett Weidner had assists on four put-outs.
