Yanks, Reds Battle to Tie in Minor League Game of the Week

May 16, 2007 - The Boys Minor League game of the week took place Saturday between the Knightstown Fire Department Yankees and the Drs. Armstrong/Ploeger Reds. The two teams battled neck-and-neck, finishing in a 7-7 tie.

Spencer Mattix slammed a home run and Drake Peggs ripped a double for the Reds.

Mattix, Peggs, Quadere Noe, Rufus Noe, Jerad Mills, Noah Stone and Jacob Rush all had two hits in the game. Alex Fields, Koden Gabbard, Gerald Noe, William Noe and Isiah Mitchell also had hits.

Mattix and Peggs pitched for the Reds, combining for five strikeouts, while Rufus and Quadere Noe both had great defensive plays.

The Yankees held tough with the unbeaten Reds, serving notice that the rest of the league may be catching up with that quick-starting team. Tyler Burton pitched two good innings, and the Yanks played well as a team.

Cameron Fender went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Mix Rinehart, Burton, Kauhner Cleek, Dalton Moss and Zach Taulbee each had two hits for the Yankees. Caleb Hoover and Easton Fields also had hits in the game.

The National Road BP Pirates defeated the Quality Hardwoods Cardinals 9-2 last week.

Vivian Goodpaster and Brock Harding had doubles, while Lane Parker had a triple and went 3-for-3 for the Pirates.

Conner Brockman and Brock Harding assisted Seth Emerson in throwing out a runner at home on a great defensive play.

Jarrett Weidner had two hits and started pitching the game for the Pirates, allowing one run on one hit and striking out two.

Logan Whitaker also pitched and struck out the side in the second inning.

Goodpaster, Weidner and Harding had two hits apiece for the winners.

Whitaker, Justin Madren, Robert Huckeby, Dane Corbett, Seth Emerson and Zachary Brown also hit safely.

The win improved the Pirates to 3-1 on the season.
