KIS Track Team Second at Wes-Del
April 25, 2007 - Knightstown’s boys finished second and the girls third in a three-way track meet against Lapel and Wes-Del last Thursday.
Lane Fields finished first in two events, while Bobby Wyatt and Danny Ortman also grabbed first place finishes for the Panther boys. Lapel won the event with 50 points, while Knightstown was a close second with 45 points and Wes-Del third at 41.
Fields won the 100-meter dash (12.4) and 200-meter dash (25.9) in terrific times, taking the blue ribbons by one and two seconds respectively. Wyatt won the discus with a toss of 94’1/2”. Ortman won the high jump and finished second in both the shot put and 100-meter dash. The Panthers also finished first in the 400- and 1600-meter relay races.
Knightstown received third place finishes from Dusty Asberry in the discus and shot put, from Zak Smith in the 200-meter dash, and Wyatt in the 400-meter dash. In the girls meet, Wes-Del won with 50 points, Lapel was second with 46, and Knightstown finished third with 29 points.
The Lady Panthers had two first place ribbons in the meet. Shay Pope continued her dominance in the shot put with a heave of 29-10½, and Ariel Sturgill again won the discus with a throw of 63 feet.
Michelle Hochstedler finished second in the high jump (4’2”), while Amanda Silver finished second in the 400-meter dash. The Lady Panthers got third place finishes from Mahaley Hagy in the discus, Sturgill in the shot put, Ashley Darling in the long jump, Pope in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and from the 400- and 1600-meter relay teams.
The track teams were in action Tuesday night, and travel to Eastern Hancock tonight (Wednesday). They travel to Lincoln April 30 for a three-way meet that includes Tri.
