KIS 8th Grade Girls Whip Raiders, Titans for County Title

February 28, 2007 - After suffering their only defeats of the season to Greenfield and Rushville, the Knightstown eighth grade Lady Panthers turned a week of misfortune into a Henry County Championship Saturday morning at Tri.

Defeating Shenandoah 20-17 in the first round, Knightstown came back to top Tri 23-16 in the title game.

Having only six players available for each game, the run-and-gun Panthers became the patient and poised Panthers for their tournament run. Defense and rebounding were the standard, where steals and lay-ups had previously reigned.

Finishing off the Lady Raiders with only four players due to foul problems, Knightstown held on the final 1:39 escaping with the victory.

In the final, Brittany Brown and Ashkia Howard led the Panther attack. Brown tallied nine points and seven boards while Howard had six points and eight rebounds. Haley Morgan added four points and three assists, Hannah Smith two points and three steals, Megan Chew two points and four boards and Jami Freeman chipped in with an assist and a steal.

Losing four games to weather cancellations, Knightstown finished the season at 11-2, winning the Wes-Del tournament and the Henry County Title.
