Lavelle Meeks Hosts WCTU Lunch Meeting

April 30, 2008 - The Woman's Christian Temperance Union met on April 2 at the home of Lavelle Meeks for a luncheon and meeting. The luncheon was prepared by Sarah Ward and the hostess. Eight members were in attendance.

The meeting was opened with President Vonda Gross leading the pledges to the American, Christian and Temperance flags and membership pledge. After a short business meeting the devotions were given by Jo Eakins of Rushville. The theme was "Let us love one another". She used the scripture I John 3:11 and 4:7-12.

The program was given by Sarah Ward on the general information about the WCTU. A quiz was given on the history of the organization. She also announced about a "World Day of prayer for WCTU" which will be held September 28th. It may be observed with a formal church service, an informal afternoon tea, community wide service or any other way which would be appropriate.

Get well cards were signed and sent to members who were ill. It was announced that Avis Hawkins was in the nursing home for therapy. Leaflets about drugs were passed out to be given during youth week. The meeting was dismissed with prayer by Patricia Small.
