 Kami Doubman Hosts Alpha Zetas

April 23, 2008 - The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa, Knightstown, met April 8 in the home of Kami Doubman, with Libby Henshaw, Lois Brooks and Shannon Dawson serving as assistant hostesses.

Prior to the business meeting, Culture Chairman Libby Henshaw introduced guest speaker Betty O’Neal, who enthralled chapter members with the story of her career as a dancer, her experiences on the stage, and her insights as a world traveler. An engaging question and answer session and an ice cream and cake reception were heartily enjoyed by all.

President Nancy Gross called the meeting to order and thanked Janet Linch and her 100th anniversary celebration team for coordinating a magnificent event. Correspondence consisted of congratulatory messages from Jane Leakey, Janet Sparks, Kathy Chorba, Barb Teitgen, Marilyn Graves, and Dolly McCormick. The nominating committee presented the slate of officers for the coming year and unanimously elected President Nancy Gross, Vice President Mary Jo Purtee, Secretary Paula Ortman, Treasurer Kristin Haase, Assistant Treasurer Barb Haase, and Corresponding Secretary Dorothy Hatton. Committee assignment preference sheets were distributed, and members were reminded that letters requesting inactive status must be received by June 1.

Committee chairman discussed plans for several upcoming events. Judy Barnes announced that the annual senior girls luncheon, co-sponsored with Psi Iota Xi, will be held at the Knightstown High School cafeteria on Sunday, April 27. Brenda Buck noted that spring flowers will be delivered on May 9, and are to be picked up at the home of Judy Haase after 5 p.m. Jill Null encouraged all “Kappa Klowns” to participate in the Jubilee Days parade on May 30, and Doubman reported that the Alumni Dinner will be held on June 21 and passed a sign up sheet for volunteers.

Cheeseball Chairman Mary Jo Purtee wrapped up another successful fundraiser, noting that 1,330 cheeseballs were sold. Requests for charitable donations were considered, and the chapter voted to give a $300 donation to the KHS Summer Band Blast and a $100 donation to the Knightstown Neighborhood Crime Watch. Members expressed gratitude to Henshaw for providing an outstanding culture program and approved a $50 gift to the Humane Society in honor of guest speaker O’Neal.

Alpha Zeta’s pledging meeting will be held on May 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Ruthie Bohnert’s home. The event will be chaired by Barnes, and assistant hostesses will be Barb Estridge, Marsha Jester, Vee Ann Schmidt and Penny Shaneyfelt.
