 Alpha Kappa Chapter Hosts Brunch

January 23, 2008 - Alpha Kappa Chapter of Alpha Epsilon State of Indiana of Delta Kappa Gamma International Honor Society for Women Teachers hosted a brunch at the First Friends Meeting House for Delta Kappa Gamma Chapters in East Central Indiana Coordinating Council Ix. The Chapters in Council IX are:

Kappa (Wayne and Union Counties); Alpha Beta (Fayette, Franklin, and Rush Counties); Alpha Kappa (Henry County); Beta Upsilon (Hancock County) and Gamma Alpha (Western Wayne County).

Special guests were the Alpha Epsilon Indiana State President, Ina Van Duyn and her husband, Jim, of Carmel. Mrs. VanDuyn grew up in New Castle and graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School.

Darlene Petry, Coordinating Council IX Chairwoman, introduced other special guests who are active in Alpha Epsilon State ofIndiana: Judy Hicks, of New Castle, President of Alpha Kappa Chapter and Chairwoman of Alpha Epsilon Scholarship Committee; Beverly Elliott of Knightstown, Scholarship Committee; and Cathy Schneider, of Rushville, President of Alpha Beta Chapter and Scholarship Committee; Connie Harison, of Centerville, Gamma Alpha Chapter Chairwoman of Alpha Epsilon State ofIndiana Special Projects Committee; Darlene Petry of New Castle, Alpha Kappa; Susan Routson of Richmond, Kappa Chapter member of Nominations Committee; and Wilma Flory, of Rushville, Treasurer of Alpha Beta.

Beverly Elliott, of Knights town, First Vice President of Alpha Kappa Chapter of Henry County, presented each guest with a decorated ceramic pumpkin.

Ina Van Duyn reported that Alpha Epsilon State of Indiana sent $ 157,453 to Afghanistan to train teachers. UNICEF gave Delta Gamma International Honor Society a place on the UNICEF board for helping teachers in other countries. $1,664,738 in scholarships has been given to teachers for professional enhancement. Delta Kappa International Honor Society also gives money to teachers and schools who are victims of natural disasters. Teacher who were victims of Katrina and Rita storms received Delta Kappa donations before government help was available.

Carlene Creviston of Alpha Kappa Chapter of Henry County and a member of the Henry County Red Hatters, with the assistance of Jim Van Duyn, presented a musical skit "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets."

Judy Hicks read a thesis comparing the attention and love given to growing plants to a student's life. When given love and attention all living things thrive.

Elizabeth Henshaw, of Dunreith, presented a repertoire of patriotic songs honoring America, our veterans, and men and women who are serving our country in the armed forces.
