Clever Clover 4-H Club Gets Season Underway at Meeting

January 9, 2008 - The Wayne Township Clever Clover 4-H club’s first meeting of the year was held at Knightstown United Methodist church on January 2.

Pledges to the American and 4-H flags were led by Ciara Kline and Dean Thomas.

The secretary's report was given by Casie Conley. Joe Haase gave the treasurers report.

Casie Conley reported that the painted trash barrel that was on display at the 4-H fair was auctioned off and purchased by Knightstown Elevator. The barrel committee was thanked for their hard work. A committee for this year's barrel project will be selected at the next meeting.

The club awarded scholarships last fall to two 10-year members. Jessica VanOsdol and Sarah Haase each received $300 to go toward their college expenses. Certain criteria must be met to be eligible for the scholarships and the amount is determined each year by the officers based on the amount in the treasury.

Members were informed that they can now go online to register their memberships and sign up for their projects. The address is http://www.for-h.purdue.edu/enroll/ Members must sign a signature page and send it to the Henry County Purdue Cooperative Extension Office to be enrolled. Registration is open until April 1.

Project night is scheduled for February 7 at the W.G. Smith Building at the 4-H fairgrounds from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is a night when participants can ask questions and see projects they might be interested in.

February 7 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. is also call-out night for those interested in shooting sports. This is also at the W.G. Smith Building in New Castle.

New officers for the 2008 year were elected and are as follows: president, Joe Haase, vice president, Casie Conley; secretary, Brittany Brown; treasurer, Travis VanOsdol; news reporter, Danny Ortman; health and safety leader, Dean Thomas, recreation leaders, Leah Cline and Patty Jones. Refreshments were served by the Thomas family.

The next Meeting will be at the Knightstown United Methodist Church on February 6 at 6:30 p.m.
