 Homemakers Meet at Zapf Home

December 5, 2007 - The regular monthly meeting of the Town and Country Extension Homemakers was held on Tuesday, November 20,2007, at the home of Melody Zapf near Charlottesville. President, Pam Bever, presided at the meeting. Following the pledge to the flag and the Homemaker's Creed devotions were given by Melody entitled "Make Every Day Thanksgiving."

The roll call on "Name a book you are reading" was answered by six members.

Kathryn Waits told about the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington National Cemetery for the cultural report. The first burial at the site was in 1921. The memorial is guarded 24/7 no matter what the weather.

For health and safety Sandra Van Hoy gave a report on "Eight ways to feel better." They were say thank you, do one thing at a time, organize your surroundings, maintain rituals, do something for others, do something for yourself, learn to say no, and turn up the quiet.

During the business session Melody passed out invitations to the club's_Christmas Party. It will be held on December 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Sahm's in Pendleton. The theme for the evening is nutcrackers.

Election of officers was held for 2008-09. Elected were: president, Sandra VanHoy; vice-president, Judy Martin; secretary, Kathryn Waits; treasurer, Brenda Reece; reporter, Kathryn Waits; health & safety, Pam Bever; cultural, Diana Lee; social, Kathryn Waits; 2008 Christmas, Sue Willcox and Judy Martin; 2008 summer outing, Sonnie Thompson and Brenda Reece.

The lesson was given by Melody on "Thanksgiving." Those present told of their own family traditions. A quiz was held where members learned many interesting facts about this holiday.

Delicious refreshments were served by Melody. Those attending the meeting were Brenda Reece, Pam Bever, Diana Lee, Melody Zapf, Sandra Van Hoy and Kathryn Waits.
