 Adrianna Silver Competes in GOP Speech Contest

March 7, 2007 - The Henry County Republican Club’s 10th Annual Speech Contest for High School Students served as the program for this year’s Henry County Lincoln Day Dinner on March 1. The club set a new record with 13 students competing. The topic was, “Who would be the best President we could elect in 2008?"

Lauren Shirey of Stony Creek Township, a home-schooled freshman, was named champion. She is daughter of Ed and Marla Shirey. Chad Lee, a junior at New Castle Chrysler High School, was runner-up. He is the son of Norma Lee and David Lee. Third place went to Daniel Fowl of Henry Township. He is a home-schooled junior and the son of Greg and Kathleen Fowl. The winners received $100, $75 and $50, respectively.

Other competitors (listed alphabetically) included Adrianna Silver of Knightstown, Andy Davis of Prairie Township, Jasmine Edwards of New Castle Chrysler High School, Kati Flannigan of New Castle, Ryan Groce of New Castle Chrysler High School, Kristen Schmeisser of New Castle Chrysler High School, Hannnah Thompson of Prairie Township, Jacqueline Trevino of Tri Junior-High School, Chris Wilkey of Tri High School and Emily Yanos of Tri Junior-High School.

Awards were as follows: Champion, $100; Runner-Up, $75; 3rd Place, $50

All competitors also received a free one-year associate (non-voting) membership in the Henry County Republican Club.

Out-of-county guest judges included Jerry Alexander of Anderson, Beth Gallien of Indianapolis and Dr. Don Gard, Ph.D., of Greenfield.
