Mary Bina Jessop
December 25, 1918 – December 17, 2011
Mary Bina Jessop, 92, of New Castle, and formerly of Knightstown, died Dec. 17 at Heritage House of New Castle.
She was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Ashville, N.C., a daughter of the late John Rucker and Dora Mae (Curtis) Jessop.
She was a graduate and honor student from Hapeville, Georgia High School. After giving up a scholarship to college, she worked demonstrating toys in Atlanta’s largest toy department store. She was also a telephone operator in Atlanta, and she and her husband worked together in their businesses. They raised their family on the old "Camel" farm on U.S. Hwy. 40 before moving to a farm on the Greensboro Pike. In the late 1970s, Mrs. Jessop moved to New Castle where she owned a ceramic shop. She was known as a very giving woman, accomplished in many areas, including gardening, flowers, crocheting, knitting and other crafts. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #116 and White Shrine Chapter #14, and was a past member of Psi Iota Xi of Knightstown.
Survivors include her children, Daniel Jr. (wife, Deanna) Jessop and Janice (husband, Roger) Burton; seven grandchildren, Brent, Bradd (wife, Nicole), Benjamin (wife, Jennifer) and Bryce Burton, and Troy (wife, Alba) and Lisa (husband, Paul) Ashby; 12 great-grandchildren, Ariel Jessop, Tricia Jessop, Alec Jessop, Tyler Ashby, Caleb Ashby, Chase Burton, Braden Burton, Alexander Burton, Cyrus Burton, Jordan Burton and Robert and Aubrie Kincaid.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Jessop; one son, Richard Jessop; and eight brothers and sisters.
Visitation is Dec. 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. The Order of Eastern Star service begins at 7:45 p.m. Funeral services are Dec. 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Hinsey-Brown with Rev. Ryan McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
