 CAB Board OKs Coaching Moves

May 27, 2009 - The Charles A. Beard School Board approved several coaching appointments at its May 19 regular monthly meeting.

Jenna Moore will replace David Bradford as head coach of the Knightstown High School softball team for the remainder of the season, retroactive to April 27. Bradford, who is also CAB's athletic director, is on paid leave for allegedly striking a player on the arm and faces possible termination by the school board. Kevin Hiner will fill the junior varsity softball coaching vacancy created by Moore's promotion to varsity coach.

Several coaching appointments were made for the 2009 football season. At KHS, Aaron Burton will serve as assistant coach for the varsity squad, while Todd Cleek will head the JV program. Ryan McCarty, Joe Kwisz and Tyler Edon will serve as volunteer coaches for the KHS football teams.

At Knightstown Intermediate School, Joe Patton and Joe Peggs will serve, respectively, as coaches for the eighth and seventh grade football teams. Todd Jones, Scott Morgan, John Heim, Jay McDaniel and Steve Bearhope will assist the KIS football programs as volunteer coaches.

In other fall sports, Darren Haines will head the boys tennis program, and Cynthia Henry will coach girls golf. Larry Loveall will coach the KHS varsity soccer team, with Tom Stingley serving as an assistant coach.

The school board also approved some coaching positions for winter sports. At KHS, Dawn Basicker will head the girls varsity basketball program, while John Howell will lead the boys varsity team. Mark Simmermon and Joe Patton will coach the girls JV basketball team, and Haines and Justin Linch will be the JV coaches for the boys.

At KIS, Mel Matlock and Jeff Griggs will be the eighth grade boys basketball coaches, and Todd Roberts will coach the boys seventh grade team, with Josh Griggs and Tyler Bryant assisting as volunteer coaches. JB Muncey will be head coach of the KIS wrestling team, with Anthony Darling serving as assistant coach.

Jana Burton will coach the varsity cheerleading squad, and Hannah Sparks-Swindell will be her assistant coach. The KIS cheerleaders will be led by head coach Melanie Newkirk and assistant coach Tiffany Prange.
