Carthage Holding Hearing Friday on Wastewater Project

April 15, 2009 - The Carthage Town Council will hold a public hearing this Friday on the town’s plans to improve its wastewater system.

According to the notice for Friday’s hearing, the improvement project is a two-phase endeavor, with the first phase focused on eliminating as much infiltration and inflow into the wastewater system as possible. The second phase would involve building a new wastewater treatment plant that would be able to handle the volume of wastewater projected for the next 20 years.

To help pay for the project, the town is applying for funding assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Rural Development. This agency also helped with funding for the town’s recently-completed water improvement project.

The purpose of Friday’s hearing, which starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at Carthage Town Hall, is to provide citizens with an opportunity to learn more about the proposed wastewater project. Citizens will also be allowed to comment on the potential economic and environmental impact of the project, alternatives to the project and other related issues.

For more information about the proposed project or Friday’s hearing, citizens may contact Carthage Clerk-Treasurer Linda McMahan at 565-6580.
