State Education Chief Bennett to Speak at Lincoln Day Dinner

March 25, 2009 - Henry County Republican Central Committee is proud to announce the scheduling of their 2009 Lincoln Day Dinner. The dinner has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, at 6 p.m. The dinner will be held at Moose Lodge 147, located at 605 New York Ave in New Castle.

Republicans said they are excited to announce that the featured speaker will be Dr. Tony Bennett, Indiana’s superintendent of public instruction. Bennett brings a 20-year record serving Indiana school children and families. Nine of those years were spent in the classroom as a science teacher while weekends and evenings were spent as a coach. Republicans said he understands the challenges teachers face every single day and knows that education is a team effort – among students, parents, teachers, administrators and community members.

On January 12, Bennett became the state education superintendent. He immediately began working to create a Department of Education focused first and foremost on student learning, while at the same time striving for an environment that is both customer service-minded and driven by measurable results.

“The Henry County Republican Party invites all those in the community with a concern and passion for the education of our children to attend the dinner and take the opportunity to meet Dr. Bennett and hear his plans for the future,” a GOP press release said. “Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with local and state Republican leaders and to hear a General Assembly update from State Senator Beverly Gard and State Representative Tom Saunders.”

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25. For tickets please contact any elected Republican official, precinct committee person, or Republican Headquarters at 529-8683.
