Fraser Runner-up in GOP Speech Contest

The Henry County Republican Club hosted its 12th annual speech contest for high school students on March 5. The topic was, “Do taxpayer-funded bail-outs of finance and industry harm more than help?
Results were as follows:
Champion: Lacy Shirey, home-schooled seventh grader; daughter of Ed and Marla Shirey of Stony Creek Township.
Runner-Up: Andrew Fraser, home-schooled senior; son of Kevin and Sheri Fraser of Wayne Township
Tied for third place: Katey Bilsky, sophomore, Knightstown High School; daughter of Bill and Pam Bilsky of Knightstown.
Tied for third place: Tony Kinnett, eighth grader, Shenandoah Middle School; son of Michael and Sonya Kinnett of Jefferson Township.
Other competitors (listed alphabetically): Kent Griffith, senior, Blue River Valley High School; son of Drs. Jim and Nancy Griffith of Blue River Township; Daniel Neal, senior, New Castle Chrysler High School; son of Lannie and Carol Neal of New Castle; Mollie Price, junior, Blue River Valley High School; daughter of Mark and Kim Price of Prairie Township; Chris Wilkey, senior, Tri High School; son of Jason and Trina Wilkey of Franklin Township.
Awards were as follows: champion, $100; runner-up, $75; third place, $50 each.
All competitors also received a free one-year associate (non-voting) membership in the Henry County Republican Club (a $10 value).
Out-of-county guest judges included: Scott Bevington of Connersville, chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party; Michael McDaniel of Indianapolis, disaster recovery coordinator, Eastern Indiana Development District; Lisa Sembach of Glenwood, vice-chair of the Fayette County Republican Party. Nate LaMar served as chairman of the speech contest.
