Knightstown Senior Musician Bound for Statewide Solo, Ensemble Contest

February 11, 2009 - Cammi Peters of the Knightstown High School Band will be a state finalist at the Indiana State School Music Association Solo & Ensemble Festival on February 21. She will play at North Central High School. Peters is a French horn player in the Panther band and this is her first appearance at state. She earned the opportunity by performing on February 7 at Stonybrook Junior High on the east side of Indianapolis. Playing a Mendelssohn composition from his 5th Symphony, Peters earned a gold medal in the most difficult division.

Many other Knightstown musicians performed on February 7. Sarah Terheide played a Handel flute sonata. From the Knightstown Intermediate School Band, other soloists included Rachel Terheide on clarinet; Dakota Coates on saxophone; and Zachary Vanscoy on trumpet. Rachel Terheide earned a gold medal for her clarinet music. The trio of Kylie Walker, Rachel Terheide and Sascha Frizzi took the gold. A saxophone trio consisting of Alison St. John, James Anderson and Courtney White took silver.

“All of the musicians played extremely well and were quite well prepared to be judged by experts in the field of music performance,” said KHS Band Director Chris Holland.
