Local FFA Busy with Many Activities
December 10, 2008 - The Knightstown FFA chapter has covered some ground since the last update of summer activities and conventions. FFA members started the year with District IX kick-off out at Hagerstown High School. Following District kick-off, National FFA Convention came to Indianapolis. More than 50,000 visitors and members took part in the career show, workshops and boosting local economy with an estimated $40 million. The convention was in motion four days, Oct. 22- 25, taking place at the National FFA Headquarters on the Northside, Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium, and Conseco Fieldhouse.
Soon after Knightstown FFA had a chapter kick-off event hosted by the Maroska family. Members participated in games, had a campfire and ate dinner. District IX hosts a competition each year for members with this year being a cornhole tournament at the fair grounds in Richmond. Each competing group was required to build their own boards and bring them to the tournament. Knightstown won the design contest.
In late November the leadership campfire was in swing. Members had to spend the weekend at the state FFA leadership center in Trafalgar, attending small sessions, having dinner and attended a dance.
District IX Forestry CDE took place in Richmond were Knightstown advanced to state. State Forestry CDE will be held at Purdue University this Saturday.
On January 23, there will be a chili supper sponsored by the Knightstown FFA at the girls and boys basketball games against Shenandoah. The games start at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. There will also be a silent auction to raise money for Washington Leadership Conference. The leadership conference is a week-long camp set in the nation’s capitol. Money raised at the chili supper will help pay for this costly trip.
