South Henry Gets Two New Board Members

July 9, 2008 - The South Henry School Board will swear two new board members and one incumbent in to office during a 7 p.m. meeting tonight.

Amy Miller and Christine Casteel both won seats on the seven-member board in the May 6 election, and they, along with reelected incumbent Scott Lightfoot, will take the oath of office at the start of tonight's meeting. A second incumbent, Randy Maloyed, was also reelected, but the four-year term for his board seat, a holdover position, does not begin until next July.

The first part of tonight's meeting will address organizational issues the board must tend to each July. In addition to the selection of a board president, vice president and secretary, the board is also expected to appoint a treasurer, deputy treasurer and attorney, as well as set board members' compensation and establish dates and times for regular board meetings.

Items listed on the agenda for tonight's meeting include reorganization of the Tri Elementary School staff and a presentation of options for use of Spiceland Elementary. The board will also receive information about a fuel cost surcharge for extracurricular trips, funding options for roof replacement, and a report from a financial consultant.

The agenda lists three recommended hirings: Dawn Beebe (full-day kindergarten); Jaime Hamm (high school counselor); and Jerry Ingalls (varsity wrestling). Two resignations were listed on the agenda: Matt Riedner (high school counselor) and Travis Estes (varsity wrestling coach).

Tonight's meeting will be held in the board meeting room in SH's administration building, 6449 S. Cemetery Dr., Spiceland.
