 CAB Cell Phone Records Still Not Provided

July 9, 2008 - Nearly two months after first requested, the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation still has yet to provide The Banner with a copy of the billing statement received in July 2007 for CAB's business manager's cell phone account.

In a record request submitted May 15, the Banner asked CAB for, among other things, copies of billing statements received in July 2007, December 2007 and April 2008 for employees with CAB-provided cell phones. While CAB gave The Banner 96 pages of billing records May 30, the accompanying cover letter from Jena Schmidt, CAB's then-public access officer, made no mention of the school corporation's response being incomplete.

While reviewing the records the following week, however, The Banner discovered CAB had not provided the billing statement received in July 2007 for the Verizon account that covers six of the seven CAB employees with cell phones. A billing statement for that same month was also not provided for AT & T account for Business Manager David Bundy's CAB cell phone.

Bundy initially told The Banner that the billing statements received in July 2007 from Verizon and AT & T could not be located at CAB's central office, although the Verizon bill was eventually found and provided June 9. Bundy told The Banner last week that AT & T has been contacted by a member of the central office staff and that duplicates of missing bills have been ordered; as of Tuesday morning, the AT & T statements had still not been received.
