 Counties to Get Federal Assistance

July 2, 2008 - Henry, Rush and Hancock counties are among 37 Indiana counties that have been approved for individual federal assistance for damages caused by recent storms and flooding.

Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Administration may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners. Applications for assistance may be completed as soon as a county has been declared for individual assistance, and they should then be forwarded to FEMA by telephone or computer.

Applications for assistance may be found at www.fema.gov/ or the state's emergency assistance website, www.emergency.in.gov. The toll free number is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.

Farmers also are reminded that in addition to U.S. Department of Agriculture help for farm losses, those with damage to their residences should also file FEMA applications.

As of June 20, the following Indiana counties had been approved for federal assistance: Adams, Bartholomew, Brown, Clay, Daviess, Dearborn, Decatur, Gibson, Grant, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Huntington, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Johnson, Knox, Lawrence, Marion, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Parke, Pike, Posey, Putnam, Randolph, Ripley, Rush, Shelby, Sullivan, Vermillion, Vigo, Washington and Wayne.
