Canoe the Big Blue Day June 28

June 25, 2008 - Have you ever wondered what it would be like to paddle down our Big Blue River?

Now is your chance. Friends of the Big Blue River are hosting a Canoe the Big Blue Day on Saturday June 28 in New Castle at 10 a.m. The goal is for the public to enjoy and appreciate what our river has to offer. You will have the opportunity to see wildlife such as the great blue heron, green heron, wood ducks, owls, swallows, kingfishers, muskrat, turtles, beaver, raccoon, mallards, geese, fish, and deer. Bring your own canoe or kayak.

Canoe Country from Daleville, Indiana will be providing canoes and kayaks to rent. All rentals will include life jackets, paddles, and a return shuttle service. All rental trips will begin at 125W and end at 350W, making a trip of approximately 2 hours. The rental is $30 per canoe and $16 for a kayak.

This is a community event for those who have their own canoes and kayaks and an opportunity for those who don’t to share in the adventure. Pre-registration for rentals is required.

Additional shuttle service for longer distances can be arranged through Friends of Big Blue River for those who bring their own canoes and kayaks.

The Friends of the Big Blue River is a local group dedicated to improving the health and beauty of the Big Blue River. Visit our website at wade2.com/friendsofbigblueriver. The FOBBR hope to make this an annual event with your support.

For more information or to reserve a rental canoe or kayak contact Kathy Rogers 520-0081, or Lee Ann Wallen (765) 521-0265 or Jeff Ray 524-1753.
