 CAB Extends Administrator Contracts

June 25, 2008 - In addition to hiring a new superintendent and appointing a new principal at Knightstown High School, the Charles A. Beard School Board dealt with several other personnel issues at its June 17 meeting.

The board voted unanimously to give two-year contract extensions that run through June 30, 2010, to four CAB administrators: Knightstown Intermediate School Principal Don Scheumann, KIS Assistant Principal Chris Bundy, Knightstown Elementary School Principal Christine Brokamp and Athletic Director David Bradford. Shirley Heck, principal for Kennard and Carthage elementaries, received a one-year contract extension.

According to a written recommendation board members received from interim Superintendent Ray Pavy, the five administrators whose contracts were extended will continue to earn the same salaries they now receive. The possibility of raises during the terms of the contracts is not foreclosed, however, as Pavy's recommendation noted that "adjustments" would be made "when salary increases are identified for 20078-2009."

The board approved Lisel "Shelli" Wilson as a kindergarten teacher for Carthage and Knightstown elementaries, and Carissa Brammer was OK'd to replace Wilson as the Title I kindergarten teacher at Kennard and Carthage. Christina Wiles was approved to teach first grade at Kennard for the first semester while regular teacher Cynthia McDonald is on maternity leave.

Two non-CAB teachers, Jeffrey Brandes and Bob Casselman, were approved as driver education instructors for the summer. Pavy told the board that no CAB teachers had been interested in the positions. The board also accepted a resignation from bus driver Jeff Haase.

The board approved several extracurricular assignments for Knightstown Intermediate School at last week's meeting: Scott Fields (academic team coordinator; academic bowl studies coach; 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade historical society); Judy Stevens (5th grade team leader); Cynthia Henry (6th grade team leader; 5th and 6th grade science bowl); Tabitha Brown (7th grade team leader); Vee Ann Schmidt (8th grade team leader); Julie Anderson (7th grade sponsor); Sherry Remington (8th grade sponsor); Patty Keesling (7th and 8th grade student council); Jerri Spears (7th and 8th grade family and consumer science club); Caylie Dicken (5th and 6th grade spell bowl); and Lisa Haughn (5th and 6th grade math bowl).

The following coaching assigments were also approved by the board: KHS boys tennis (Darren Haines); KHS boys soccer (Larry Loveall); volunteer KHS boys soccer (Jerry Poling and Tom Stingley); KHS volunteer volleyball (Carrie Underwood); KHS volunteer football (Joe Kwisz) and Ryan McCarty); KIS volunteer football (Steve Bearhope, Brandon Grubbs, Jay McDaniel, Scott Morgan and Todd Jones).
