Scott Ritchie to Head Knightstown H.S.

June 18, 2008 - The Charles A. Beard School Board voted last night to promote Knightstown High School Assistant Principal Scott Ritchie to the school's top administrative post. Ritchie will become principal at KHS on July 1. He replaces Ray Willsey, who resigned last month after just a year on the job.

The board approved a two-year contract that will pay Ritchie $72,786 the first year, 21.5 percent more than he earns as assistant principal. In addition to the salary, which is the same Willsey had received, the position also comes with benefits that include health, life and long-term disability insurance for 25 cents a year each. Ritchie's hiring was prompted by the unanimous recommendation of a six-member committee that interviewed Ritchie for the job on June 9. The committee consisted of KHS guidance counselor Susie Leonard, physical education teacher Bob Prescott, business manager David Bundy, school board members Leah Kopp and Wade Beatty, and interim superintendent Ray Pavy.

Ritchie came to CAB last July when he was hired as the new assistant principal. Before that, he had been a school-to-career coordinator at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis, where he also headed the school's improvement plan committee.
