Crime Watch to Call Gym Home

April 23, 2008 - The Knightstown Neighborhood Crime Watch will soon have a new office.

KNCW President Dan Webber told The Banner last week that the Hoosier Gym has been offered to allow the crime watch group to use office space at the gym.

Webber said that starting in early May, KNCW will share an office at the gym with the local Optimist Club, and will have access to a computer and a printer.

The KNCW's office hours will be from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Webber said the group is looking for volunteers to staff the office from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and from 2:30-5 p.m.

Webber said it is also hoped that the KNCW's presence at the gym will provide the facility with extra security. Earlier this month, juveniles set off fire extinguishers in the gym, which resulted in thousands of dollars in clean-up costs.

The crime watchers will also use a classroom on the gym's east side for their monthly meetings, which will be held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.

The next KNCW meeting and training session is May 13. All members of the Knightstown community, including those who live within a mile-and-a-half of the town's limits, are welcome to attend.

For more information, contact Webber at 765-345-7146.
