Kennard Kids Spell Their Way to Success

March 5, 2008 - The Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation's first ever spelling bee culminated in a spelling showdown between two Kennard Elementary School fourth graders last Thursday night in the Knightstown High School auditorium.

Eventual winner Annie Moore and runner-up Ryan Johnson went through word after word before Moore correctly spelled two consecutive words, exasperate and toucan.

The bee featured 12 third and fourth grade students from CAB's three elementary schools. Each competitor placed in their respective inter-school spelling bee.

Shirley Heck, who serves as principal at both Kennard and Carthage, organized the event. "The kids were so excited about the spelling bee," she said. "We think the whole thing was exciting and we're already planning next year's spelling bee."

Spelling bee competitors included Moore, Johnson, Britney Taylor, Brandy Love, Levi Majority, Jarrett Weidner, Jayda Perisho, Madison Irwin, Doreen Cates, Tori McDonald, Logan Whitaker, and Amanda Wolfrom.
