Shirley Meetings Aimed at Grant Information Sharing

February 20, 2008 - The Shirley Town Council will hold a pair of special meetings next Wednesday, Feb. 27, to provide information to town residents interested in applying for grant funds to help pay for home improvements.

According to a recently issued press release, the town plans to apply to the Indiana Housing and Community Development for a Homeowner Repairs and Improvements Grant. It is hoped that at least 19 local homeowners will be able to get grants to help pay for improvements like new roofs, windows and siding, as well as exterior painting.

To be eligible for a grant, homeowners must meet low-income guidelines set by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. The homes to be improved must be located within the town's boundaries, and rental properties are not eligible.

Information and all necessary forms that homeowners must complete will be available at the council's two meetings, set for 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Shirley Town Hall, 409 Main St. Grant writing personnel from Star Development of Cambridge City will also be present at the meetings to answer questions and provide assistance on filling out the paperwork.
