Board to Select New KHS Principal

June 20, 2007 - The Charles A. Beard School Board is expected to approve the hiring of a new principal for Knightstown High School at a special meeting on Monday, July 2.

School Board President Mike Fruth told The Banner that CAB received "a lot" of applications for the principals position being vacated by Jim Diagostino, who is leaving at month's end to become principal at Tri-West High School in Hendricks County. According to Fruth, CAB Superintendent David McGuire, who is also resigning to take a job elsewhere, winnowed this large pool of applicants down to five who were interviewed by a committee of about a dozen people. Fruth declined to comment on the quality of the applicants who were interviewed or divulge their identities. "I think that would be best to wait for the board meeting," he said.

Not every member of the interviewing committee was as reticent to talk about the selection process, however. One person, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the committee's recommendation to the school board is going to be that the KHS principal's job go to Raymond Willsey, Jr., currently the assistant principal at Attica High School. According to this source, the job was initially offered to Philip Nikirk, principal at Anderson High School, but he reportedly turned it down because it would have paid more than $25,000 less than his current salary.

The Banner was unable to confirm these claims by its news deadline.

The July 2 meeting will be held in CAB's Central Office at 345 N. Adams St. Call 345-5101 to find out the meeting's starting time. The board is also expected to vote that night to approve the hiring of a new boys varsity basketball coach.
