Local 5th Grader Wants to Help Iraqi Kids

March 21, 2007 - A local fifth grader is spearheading efforts to collect school supplies for Iraqi school children.

Eleven-year-old Shelby Hall, a student at Knightstown Intermediate School, is encouraging her classmates and others in the community to donate items for use in Iraqi schools. Shelby is the daughter of Ric Hall and Mary (husband, Bob) Pritchett, both of Knightstown, and her older sister, Samantha (Hall) Pritchett (KHS '03), is married to a U.S. Army ranger currently stationed in Baghdad.

"She's a really good girl and she thought this up herself," Mary Pritchett said of Shelby's efforts. "She just wanted to do something that would help these other kids."

School supplies being sought for donation include paper, pencils, erasers, crayons, markers and construction paper. Through April 1, donations can be left at the following Knightstown locations: Corner Bakery, NAPA Auto Parts, Main Street Threads, Knightstown Public Library.
