Local Police Seeking Leads in Suspicious Elevator Fire

March 14, 2007 - The Knightstown Police Department is investigating a suspicious fire set outside the Knightstown Elevator last week.

According to a KPD incident report, officer Dan Denny noticed a broken window at the grain elevator, 4 W. Grant St., while on patrol at about 4 a.m. last Friday. He also observed that there appeared to have been a fire set on the east side of the building, although it was no longer burning.

The initial police report indicates that gasoline had been poured on the ground outside the elevator and set on fire. In addition to the busted window, Denny's report also indicates that there was some fire and heat damage to a sign and awning on the building's east side.

Knightstown Chief of Police Earl Patterson told The Banner on Monday that the KPD is treating the incident as a possible attempted arson and that the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the KPD at 345-2785.
