Eder Radio Students Hope to Repeat Past Successes

March 7, 2007 - Indiana Association of School Broadcasters State Finals were held on Monday, March 13, 2006, at the University of Indianapolis. After winning numerous individual awards, the biggest award of the day was given to the Broadcasting Program at the Eder Career Center, as they were named “Radio School of the Year.”

Nearly a year later, the program will try to defend its’ majestic award at this year’s competition on Monday, March 12, at the University of Indianapolis. Four students entered four categories with Cara Denis and Rachel Layton competing in Radio Personality and News, Brent Patrick and Rachel Layton in Radio Production and Kyle Edington and Brent Patrick in Radio Imaging.

This year, more than 305 entries were submitted from 31 schools state wide, including: Ben Davis, Warren Central, Franklin Central, Huntingdon North, Rushville, Pendleton, Homestead, Arsenal Tech, Merrillville, Western Boone, Penn, Carmel and North Central.

“I didn’t think that it could get any better than last year with all of the individual awards and being named school of the year,” Instructor Mike York said. “But this year’s competitors have really turned it up a notch and we seriously have a chance of repeating as school of the year again. I’m proud of everyone.”

The competition can be heard over the Internet by going to www.wicr.uindy.edu beginning at 10 a.m. WKPW-FM is located on the grounds of the Indiana Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown and is under the direction of Superintendent Paul Wilkinson and Vocational Coordinator James Maxwell.
