Honda Begins Limited Hiring for Its New Indiana Auto Plant
February 21, 2007 - Honda has announced plans to begin hiring a limited number of positions for the $550 million auto production plant it is building near Greensburg.
In a press release issued Monday, the company said it will begin advertising in newspapers across the state for non-production positions in the areas of automotive engineering, purchasing, information technology and administration. Detailed information about these and other positions will be listed online at www.indiana.honda.com.
"This is a small but significant first step in hiring Honda associates for our Greensburg plant," said Shane McCoy, Honda's senior manager for the new plant. "This begins an exciting aspect of establishing a Honda manufacturing operation -- reaching into communities for future associates who want to learn our unique culture and product-quality processes."
Honda said in Monday’s press release that it plans to hire 2,000 people for the Greensburg plant, with the vast majority of those being production associates the company will start hiring later this year. The new facility – which will be able to produce up to 200,000 vehicles a year – will be built on 1,700 acres in Decatur County, adjacent to Interstate 74 and existing rail lines.
The Greensburg plant will be Honda's sixth auto assembly plant in North America and one of 17 major plants for Honda in North America. So far, the only information the company has released about the vehicle that will be made in Greensburg is that it will be will feature a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine manufactured in Anna, Ohio, with the vast majority of vehicle parts coming from Honda's base of U.S. suppliers.
