Abbie Wehr To Head Carthage Park Committee

February 21, 2007 - Carthage resident Abbie Wehr has been named the new head of the town’s park committee. During a special meeting meeting February 7, Carthage Town Council President Rick Bush announced that Jennifer Cooper, wife of council member Rob Cooper, had recently resigned as head of the committee. Bush appointed Wehr, wife of council member Tim Wehr, as Cooper’s replacement.

“Jennifer, she pretty much quit because she didn’t like Girl Scouts being able to put a tree in the park without her OK,” Bush said. At its January 29 meeting, the council had voted to allow local Girl Scouts to plant a tree at McNabb Park and install a plaque honoring Ercell Bever, Jr., a lifelong Ripley Township resident who died last August.

Council Vice President Wanda Henderson noted that the park committee, established by the council last year, can only make recommendations to the council and doesn’t have authority to make any decisions about the park. “Anything they do still has to go through this board for approval,” she said.
